Youth sports attrition rates are as high as 70% by the age of 13. Just think about that; if you put your 10 year old child on a hockey team with 9 other kids, by the time they’re teenagers only three kids will be left. As well, national health surveys report 32% of the 5-to-17 year old age group is either overweight or obese. Former active play time is being replaced with inactive screen time, at an average of 6 and a half hours per day.

About You:

Whatever your walk in life, you’ve felt firsthand the negative effects of rising youth sports drop-out rates. You could be…

  • A coach, looking to hone your skills and become a transformational leader
  • An executive, wanting to combat the drop out rates of your sport
  • A parent learning how to best support your child and their team
  • Worried about the amount of screen time the youth in your life are choosing over time for play
  • Raising a child who was once extremely passionate about their sport, and now barely wants to go to practice

Something that all of us have in common is the desire to develop the skills of the game, as well as the skills of life through sport.

About Us:

At Paradigm Sports, our mission is to help parents, youth sports coaches, and executive members understand the issues in youth sports and what must be done to fix them. Together, we can bring the game back to the kids, where it belongs.

The Problem

Our team has over 76 years of combined coaching experience, and have acted as athletes, parents to youth athletes, and coaching mentors. We focus on incremental coach development not currently being offered in clinics or conferences. There is so much more to coaching than just the X’s and O’s! All of our team members are UBC or TWU graduates, and we believe firmly in both quality coaching development and parental education.

The Mission

Coaches

Some coaches over-emphasise short-term success and forget that fun is the number one reason why kids play. This is causing many kids to pursue non-active interests.

Kids are quitting because the game is no longer fun!

Parents

Some parents try to serve as another coach (the ride home), and place development of a specific sport above overall personal development. This makes sport seem like a job and not an activity.

Kids are quitting to avoid the criticism!

Our mission is to educate coaches, parents and administrators through workshops, presentations and online resources to help keep kids involved in sport well into their adulthood.

Let’s Keep Kids Interested in Sport by Developing Leaders!
